Review of Literature in Research and Finding Research Gap

Dear All,

This is to inform you that Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Tamil Nadu has organised a special online lecture series Anveshan: Online Lecture Series in LIS for Research Scholars. The seventh online lecture in the series was organised on 24th June, 2021 (Thursday) at 3:00 PM through Google Meet. Prof. Rabinarayan Mishra, Former Head, Department of Library and Information Science, Mizoram University, Aizawl has been invited as resource person and he delivered a lecture on "Review of Literature in Research and Finding Research Gap". 

The program commenced with a welcome address given by Dr. Akhandanand Shukla, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Library and Information Science, CUTN Thiruvarur followed by a brief introduction about the resource person.

Prof. Rabinarayan Mishra started his lecture by highlighting the importance of describing statement of the problem in research. According to him, first and foremost step in research is defining the research problem, for that it is important to find the research gap in the existing literature. He explained all aspects related to literature review, types, components, properties and methods of identifying literature and process of finding research gap including the source and authenticity of the literature collected.

The lecture was coordinated by Dr. V. K. Dhanyasree, Assistant Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur and attended by 30 participants. The lecture session ended with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. V. K. Dhanyasree. Ms. Bhavya K. P., Junior Research Fellow, worked as rapporteur in the program.

Research Data Management

Dear All,

This is to inform you that Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Tamil Nadu has organized a special online lecture series OLSL: Online Lecture Series in LIS. The sixth lecture in the series was organized on 18th June, 2021 (Friday) at 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM through Google Meet. Dr. Shri Ram Pandey, Assistant Professor, Department of Library & Information Science, Banaras Hindu University was invited as resource person and he delivered the talk on “Research Data Management”. 

The program commenced with a welcome address given by Dr. Akhandanand Shukla, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Library and Information Science, CUTN, Thiruvarur followed by a brief introduction of the resource person.

Dr. Shri Ram Pandey started his talk with an elaborate introduction to data and Research Data Management (RDM). He explained how the data that are collected, observed or created can be actively managed and how to appraise the data over the life cycle of scholarly and scientific interest. He emphasized that RDM makes your data easy to work with, understandable, and available to other scientists. He went on to educate the participants on different types of data and why it is essential to manage research data. The speaker then introduced the RDM Life Cycle and the inputs in the research data cycle. He carried on by talking about the stakeholders of RDM such as institution authority, the investigators, libraries etc. Dr. Shri Ram then gave an insight to the Data Management Plan (DMP), Data Repositories and Software tools which assist in RDM. The highlight of the lecture was the live hands-on experience of the Figshare Repository. An active Q&A session took place thereafter. The discussions focused on rights related aspects of data sharing and the resource person emphasized the importance of institutional level policies in RDM.

The lecture was coordinated by Dr. Anila Sulochana, Assistant Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur and attended by 31 participants. The lecture session ended with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Anila Sulochana. Ms. Nayanthara S., Research Scholar, worked as the rapporteur in the program.

Farewell 2021 for MLIS 4th Semester Students

Dear All, 

This is to inform you all that 2nd Semester MLIS students have organized a virtual farewell function to final year MLIS students (2019-2021 batch) on 11th June, 2021 at 3:00 PM – 04:00 PM. The event commenced by the welcome speech given by Aysha Mahira CM, first year MLIS student. Dr. Akhandanand Shukla, Head of Department delivered inaugural speech followed all the faculty members. The cultural events including memory games, music performances, and quizzes etc. presented by 2nd semester MLIS students. The program was well managed by Vijay Kumar, Uday Kiran, Aysha Mahira, Namitha and other students. Vote of Thanks has been proposed by Namitha P.

Literature Search and Review of Literature in Research

This is to inform you that Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Tamil Nadu has organised a special online lecture series Anveshan: Online Lecture Series in LIS for Research Scholars. The sixth online lecture in the series was organised on 10th June, 2021 (Thursday) at 3:00 PM through Google Meet. Dr. Rupak Chakravarty, Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh has been invited as resource person and he delivered a lecture on "Literature Search and Review of Literature in Research".

The program commenced with a welcome address given by Dr. Akhandanand Shukla, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Library and Information Science, CUTN Thiruvarur followed by a brief introduction about the resource person.

Dr. Rupak Chakravarty started his talk stating the difference between literature search and literature review. According to him, a literature search is a never-ending process, it’s important to consult various sources to know the background of the study. He explained the literature search cycle and search strategy, components of literature review, various steps of completing a literature review including synthesis and writing; and the importance of critical analysis in literature review. He emphasized the need to proofread thoroughly before submitting your literature review. Finally, he discussed some important tools that would help while carrying out research work.

The lecture was coordinated by Dr. V. K. Dhanyasree, Assistant Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur and attended by 29 participants. Dr. K. G. Sudhier, Assistant Professor of the department, shared his views about the talk. The lecture session ended with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. V. K. Dhanyasree. Mr. Suman Barath P., Junior Research Fellow, worked as rapporteur in the program.

Corporate Librarianship in Digital Era

Dear All,

This is to inform you that Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Tamil Nadu has organised a special online lecture series OLSL: Online Lecture Series in LIS. The fifth online lecture in the series was organised on 29th May, 2021 (Friday) at 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM through Google Meet. Dr. Nagappa V. Bakkannanavar, Head – Information Resource Center, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., Bangalore, has been invited as resource person and he delivered the talk on “Corporate Librarianship in Digital Era”.

The session initiated with a welcome address given by Dr. Akhandanand Shukla, Associated Professor and Head, Department of Library and Information Science, CUTN, Thiruvarur followed by a brief introduction about the resource person Dr. Nagappa Bakkannanavar.

Dr. Nagappa Bakkannanavar addressed the research scholars, students and faculties with a warm welcome and started the session by explaining the importance of Library Science profession by giving his own life story as an example. When he entered in to the topic, he talked about the transformation of libraries from the physical libraries to digital libraries. He made a note of the huge difference in these two libraries in all aspects such as facilities, technology, behavior of librarian, users etc. Then he gave a brief introduction on corporate libraries which included its basics, mission, how it works and objectives. He mentioned the different posts that are available for library science professionals in the corporate library. Rather than the traditional post of being a librarian, there are opportunities like a content manager, data analyst, information specialist, product manager etc. He explained the responsibilities come with these positions. He also stressed on the importance of extra skills rather than confining to the syllabus based studies. There upon, he explained about the analytical skills and techno savvy necessity for a corporate librarian. The lively and interactive session was concluded with questionnaire that gave emphasize on the importance of the extra skills that are necessary to cope up with the new waves in the library profession.

The lecture series was coordinated by Dr. Anila Sulochana, Department of Library and Information Science, CUTN, Thiruvarur and attended by 35 participants including faculties, research scholars, and MLIS students. The lecture series ended with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Anila Sulochana.
