She spoke with a description about the Deepalaya Community Library Project, and shared some personal experiences related to community libraries. In her lecture, she emphasized on reading habits and said “book is a powerful tool, but it will become least powerful when it is in minimal use”. She described three factors in association with a free library movement in India; creating a working model, learning lab and promotion of a reading culture. In addition to this, she gave specific idea about features and benefits of a free library; they are free of replacement charge, security issue and the fine. The session concluded with discussions about the practical aspects of a free library i.e. how the libraries can function without any fees or security deposits? The speaker explained the concept of free library, where the kids tear the pages or books, but instead of putting a fine or replacement, the library organizes a regular maintenance day so that the kids can do the repairing of the book or take part in maintenance of the library. The resource person mentioned a few cases, where the kids have not given fine or scolding for the missing or damaged books and they considered library as a place where they can be free. She added that librarians should not be the custodian of books or guard books like treasure and they should let people explore and read books. The discussion continued on the financial aspects of the project and how various organizations and individuals support this project with financial contributions or in the form of books etc.

The lecture series was coordinated by Dr. Anila Sulochana, Assistant Professor and conducted by the Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur and attended by 36 members including faculties, research scholars, and MLIS students.
