This is to inform you that Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Tamil Nadu has organised a special online lecture series Anveshan: Online Lecture Series in LIS for Research Scholars. The fourth online lecture in the series was organised on 15th April, 2021 (Thursday) at 3:00 PM through Google Meet. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sunny, Deputy Librarian, Mahatma Gandhi Central Library, IIT Roorkee has been invited as resource person and he delivered a lecture cum demonstration on "Mendeley: A Reference Management Tool".
The program begin with the welcome address given by Dr. Akhandanand Shukla, Head, Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur followed by the introduction about Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sunny.
Dr. Sanjeev addressed the research scholars, students and faculties with a warm welcome and started the session by giving a brief note on research process. He stated that the research topic should be of interest to the researcher and connecting to literature will help the researcher greatly to identify the research gap as well as to frame the research questions and objectives. Afterwards, Dr. Sanjeev gave a brief introduction on Mendeley and why it is preferred over Zotero. In this session, he showed a demonstration on how to install Mendeley, how to create folders and sub-folders, highlighting a document, how to create tags, how to add an entry manually and many other features of Mendeley. Dr. Sanjeev also added that, unlike Zotero, Mendeley can be synced over Internet and is accessible from any system making it very convenient for the users. He also showed how citations can be exported to Mendeley from databases like Scopus, Web of Science, and Elsevier. Towards the end of the session, how to cite the reference with MS word plug-in and how to download more referencing style within Mendeley were also demonstrated.
The lecture series was coordinated by Dr. V. K. Dhanyasree, Assistant Professor and conducted by the Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur and attended by 39 participants including faculties, research scholars, and MLIS students. The lecture series ended with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. V. K. Dhanyasree. The program report was prepared by Ms. Mariam Bhanu M. A., Junior Research Fellow of the Department.
