Information Literacy Skills

This is to inform you that Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Tamil Nadu has organised a special online lecture series OLSL: Online Lecture Series in LIS. The fourth online lecture in the series was organised on 7th May, 2021 (Friday) at 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM through Google Meet. Dr. Rajesh Singh, University Librarian, Delhi University Library System, University of Delhi, Delhi has been invited as resource person and he delivered the talk on “Information Literacy Skills”.

The program was started with a welcome address given by Dr. Akhandanand Shukla, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Library and Information Science, CUTN Thiruvarur followed by a brief introduction about the resource person.

Dr. Rajesh Singh initiated with the definition of information literacy and in his presentation, he covered different aspects of information literacy skills such as searching, ethics and access. The session has also covered various search strategies and how it can be used effectively. The ethics part was focused more on the plagiarism. The resource person discussed about various sources of information. The session was concluded with an active discussion on invisible web and deep web.

A total of 25 participants attended the session including faculties, research scholars, and PG students of the department. The session ended with a formal vote of thanks proposed by the coordinator of the program, Dr. Anila Sulochana. Ms. Sarmishta Raghavan, 2nd Semester MLIS Student, worked as rapporteur for the program.
