Successful Participation in International Conference by Mr. Abhijit Roy

Successful PhD Pre-Submission Seminar of Mr. Abhijith B.

The topic of his research is "Developing Ontology on the Contributions of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan in the Field of Library and Information Science." His research supervisor is Dr. K. G. Sudhier. The Ph.D. Pre-Submission Seminar was attended by faculty members, research scholars, and students from the department, as well as research scholars and faculty members from other departments.

Job Achievement by Ms. R. Deepika

Deepika, a graduate of the M.Phil. program and an alumna of the Department of Library & Information Science at the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur, has been appointed as Assistant Librarian at the G. Narayanamma Institute of Technology & Science (for Women), Hyderabad. She joined the post on 13th December 2024. Previously, she worked as a Professional Assistant at the Learning Resource Centre, Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad.

Awareness Program on Research Data Management@CUTN

Dear All, 

The Department of Library and Information Science at the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN), Thiruvarur, in collaboration with the INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, and sponsored by DataCite-GAF Programme & Central University of Tamil Nadu, organized a one-day awareness program on Research Data Management (RDM) on 25th November 2024. The event, held at the Media Theatre, CUTN, aimed to educate participants on the importance and best practices for managing research data effectively.

The program began with the traditional Tamil Thai Vazhthu and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address from Prof. S. Thanuskodi, Head of the Department of Library and Information Science, CUTN. The session featured addresses from Prof. B. Radha, Dean of the School of Communication, Prof. S. Ravi, Former Dean, and the Honourable Vice Chancellor, Prof. M. Krishnan, who emphasized the role of RDM in advancing research transparency. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Akhandanand Shukla, Programme Coordinator and Faculty at DLIS CUTN. 

The technical sessions commenced with Mr. Hitesh Kumar Solanki presenting an overview of Research Data Management, discussing the types of research data and the importance of open data for transparency, collaboration, and innovation. The second session, led by Mr. Pallab Pradhan, focused on Data Management Plans (DMP), explaining how these plans ensure effective handling, storage, sharing, and preservation of research data. Mr. Pradhan also introduced tools for creating DMPs and their benefits. In the third session, Mr. Pradhan elaborated on the role of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs), DataCite, and Metadata Standards in research data, explaining the importance of DOI and other identifiers for research data deposition. He also touched on the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy and the principles of data citation. The fourth session, led by Mr. Solanki, covered the National Research Data Repository (NRDR), including its policy, workflow, and key features for institutional coordinators and researchers. A demonstration on how to access and upload data to the NRDR was provided.

The program concluded with a valedictory session, where Dr. Taddi Murali welcomed the dignitaries, and Dr. S. Ravikumar presented the program report. Feedback from participants highlighted the program's effectiveness in enhancing their understanding of RDM. Mr. Pallab Pradhan, Scientist-C at INFLIBNET Centre, served as the Guest of Honour, while Dr. R. Parameswaran, Librarian at Chozha Central Library, CUTN, emphasized the importance of electronic resources and RDM principles at the institutional level. Dr. S. Dhanavandan, Deputy Librarian, CUTN, delivered a felicitation address, recognizing the program's success. Dr. K. G. Sudhier, Assistant Professor at DLIS CUTN, delivered the vote of thanks. The session closed with the National Anthem and tea/snacks. The program was attended by 98 registered participants, including PG students, research scholars, library professionals, and faculty members from various subject fields. The program was compered by Dr. V. K. Dhanyashree, and research scholars Ms. Bhavya K. P., Ms. Rishika Sohni, Ms. Komal Sahu, and Mr. Abhijit Roy worked as rapporteurs for the sessions.

National Webinar on "Research Ethics and Academic Publishing"

Dear All, 

This is to inform you that the Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur in association with Balani Infotech Pvt. Ltd. Noida organized a National Webinar on "Research Ethics and Academic Publishing" on 27th November 2024 (Wednesday) at 3:30 PM through Google Meet. Dr. Nikita Wanjari, Relationship Manager and Science Communicator, Academic and Corporate, Balani Infotech Pvt. Ltd., was invited as the speaker and delivered a lecture on "Research Ethics and Academic Publishing."

The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Akhandanand Shukla, Program Coordinator and Associate Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, CUTN, Thiruvarur, followed by a brief introduction of the resource person by Dr. K. G. Sudhier, Assistant Professor, DLIS, CUTN.

Dr. Nikita Wanjari delivered a detailed and engaging presentation, covering various aspects of research ethics, academic publishing, and associated tools. She started her talk by explaining concepts such as h-index, impact factor, open access, and Creative Commons (CC) licenses, and provided practical advice on identifying authentic journals and avoiding cloned or predatory journals. She further discussed the writing process for creating an impactful abstract, the peer review process, and introduced AI tools, emphasizing their potential to save time and streamline the research flow. Dr. Wanjari also elaborated on specialized tools and software like Sciflow, ImageTwin.ai, and Lanquill. She highlighted major publishers in different disciplines (ACS, APA, AAAS, Project MUSE, World Library) and their contributions. Additionally, a discussion on popular plagiarism detection tools such as Turnitin and Drillbit, with particular attention to their applicability for regional languages, was included in the session.

The webinar featured a lively Q&A session, where participants raised pertinent questions about effective strategies for structuring a research paper and methods to eliminate plagiarism, ensuring originality in academic writing.

The National Webinar was attended by more than 500 registered participants from across the country. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by the Program Coordinator, Dr. Akhandanand Shukla. Prof. S. Thanuskodi, Head of the Department of Library & Information Science, CUTN, was the Convener of the program. Ms. Bhavya K. P., Senior Research Fellow, served as the rapporteur for the program.

Successful Participation in IASLIC 30th National Seminar by Dr. K. G. Sudhier

Dear All, 

This is to inform you that Dr. K. G. Sudhier, Assistant Professor of the Department, participated in and presented a paper at the 30th IASLIC National Seminar on "Information Literacy for Developing Enlightened Library/Information User Community in the New Age," organized by the Department of Library & Information Science, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, during 21-23 November 2024. 

He successfully presented his paper on the topic "Information Needs and Use Patterns of School Children with Disabilities in Kerala: Challenges for Bridging the Gap." In addition to his paper presentation, he also co-chaired a technical session during the National Seminar. 


The department congratulates him on his successful participation and presentation at the 30th IASLIC National Seminar.

Successful PhD Pre-Submission Seminar of Ms. Hasbi Alikunju

Dear All,

The topic of her research is "An Assessment of Health Information Poverty among the Transgender Community in Kerala." Her research supervisor is Dr. Anila Sulochana.

We are delighted to inform you that Ms. Kumari Champa Varma, a graduate of the MLIS program (2021-2023 batch) and an alumnus of the Department of Library & Information Science at the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur, has been appointed as a Trainee-Global Library under the Global Library Training Programme (GLTP) at O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat, Haryana, from 6th January 2025 to 31st March 2027. She has previously worked as a Library Professional Trainee at IIT Gandhinagar.

Special Lecture on Open Access Week 2024@DLIS, CUTN

This is to inform you that the Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Tamil Nadu, celebrated International Open Access Week 2024 by organizing a seminar on the theme "Open Source Software and Community Development" on 29th October 2024 (Tuesday) at 2:30 PM in the Smart Classroom of the Department. Dr. Thiyagarajan P., Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, CUTN, was invited as the speaker and delivered a lecture on “Open Source Software in Libraries.”

The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. K. G. Sudhier, Assistant Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science, CUTN, Thiruvarur, who emphasized the significance of open access, followed by a brief introduction of the resource person.

Prof. S. Thanuskodi, Head of the Department of Library and Information Science at CUTN, presented a welcome gift to Dr. P. Thiyagarajan as a special gesture. Dr. Thiyagarajan delivered a lecture on the topic "Open Source Software for Libraries," where he emphasized the importance of open-source software and community development in fostering collaboration and promoting digital inclusivity. He discussed popular open-source software alternatives, highlighting their benefits and applications, particularly in the field of library science. Dr. Thiyagarajan also presented real-world examples of successful open-source projects, including Linux.

The lecture was coordinated by Dr. K.G. Sudhier, Assistant Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science at the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur, and was attended by first- and third-semester PG students, research scholars, and LIS faculty members. The session concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Ananya Boruah, a third-semester MLIS student.
